LUKE GOLIATH & ZAYBO – OPTIONS

Port Elizabeth-born musician, Luke Goliath, is a 22-year-old SAMA award-winning DJ composer and producer who just released his latest single, Options, on all digital platforms (on 30 September 2019). Options is a hot new collaboration with fellow PE-born artist/musician, Zaybo, that has been making waves on the SA scene this past month.

The song has started to gain some traction across SA radio stations too, and I believe Luke is well on his way to a successful career as a DJ and producer in the SA music industry. He is most known for his producing work on the SAMA-winning song, Suited, which was sung by SA sensation, Shekinah, as well as his producing skills on her SAMA-winning album, Rose Gold.

Together you are both billed as one of the rising stars on the SA music scene. Where and when did your love for music start?

Luke Goliath: Mine started when I was really young, probably around 12/13 years old. I wasn’t allowed to listen to “secular music” but my dad would buy these Hillsong United CD/DVDs, it had this heavy rock feel. I would watch the DVDs and I always saw the guitar players having so much fun and that’s when I was like, I want to be that guy, I want to be a rock star haha.

Zaybo: I grew up in a household that loved music and being exposed to that since an early age sparked my interest in music. I was 13 years old when I took up dancing as a hobby and went on doing that professionally up until the age of 16. I then went on to actually make music from the age of 16 until this present time and I absolutely love it. I knew that this is what I was meant to do.

You produce some of the freshest music material currently, what would you say has been your inspiration?

Luke: When we’re in studio, we would feed off each other’s energy. We come up with most of our music based on actual events that happens in our lives. These events together with our energy we bring in studio inspires the music we make.

Your single “Options” has already reached an estimated audience of 60 000 streams on various digital platforms. How does this accomplishment make you feel?

Luke: We’re happy that people are receiving the song so well. It makes us feel as though people can relate to the sound that we put out and the fact that they enjoy what we do as much as we enjoy doing it, makes us want to do it even more

A lot of hard work goes into producing a number one track, but what would you say has been your key to success for “Options”?

Luke: We personally believe the key to any form of success is trusting your gut, and believing in the vision you have in your head before anyone else even understands it. Also don’t try to take it to seriously, its music, it should be fun, that’s what people connect to.

Luke you have also worked with influencer Nadia Jaftha in the past on her chart toping hit “I’m Good”. What was the experience like working with her?

Luke: Working with Nadia is great, she’s such a dope individual, she’s crazy, but in a good way haha. We always have so much fun in studio and I love that she knows what she wants to create as an artist.

You are currently in studio working on your next musical releases for this coming summer season. What can we expect from it?

Luke: A diverse range of music, happy, sad, and everything in between. We try not box ourselves and stick anything specific. What we create is based on what we feel in that moment. Music’s a form of expression and as a listener you’ll know what we felt based on what we put out.

Are there any collaboration with other musicians and SA DJ’s we can look forward to?

Luke: As Luke Goliath x Zaybo respectively, you can expect music with a variety of different artist.

What are some of your 2020 plans when it comes to new music?
Luke: We aim to release our catalogue of music that we’ve been working on for the past 2 years as well as our more recent production.

What inspirational advice do you both have for young musicians/ producers?

Luke: Believe in yourself, have a vision and stick to it. Be realistic in the sense of what you create as An artist and if you truly believe it is good enough, push it, even when people say you shouldn’t, not every idea will be great but if you find something that you really think is worth perusing, Pursue it with all your heart.
